Qualcomm’s new Internet Service Provider (ISP) is twice as fast as the previous version. The ISP (Image Signal Processor) featured in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU is known as Snapdragon Sight. Both casual users and experts will benefit from the new features and quicker speeds, and the improvements are so significant that Qualcomm has given the package it’s own branding.
The technical information
qualcomm snapdragon knows that people who buy expensive phones need a good camera and have worked hard on the hardware side to make phones with the best Android camera better than ever. A new platform has been launched with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip which looks like a big leap forward.
The platform is called Snapdragon Sight and a new hardware chip powers it all. The ISP is packed with improvements over previous generations, starting with the ability to process 3.2 gigapixels per second, which is a big advantage over the Snapdragon’s 2.7 gigapixels per second on 888 in all. In real-world use, that means the new rig can capture 240 12MP photos or 30 full-resolution 108MP photos per second.
It can also handle three 36MP photos per second simultaneously for special shooting modes using multiple cameras. also, combine up to 30 images into a single image for better night mode and low light photos. It can output uncompressed RAW 18-bit photographs for professional editing and works at 18 bits per channel to considerably increase dynamic range — Qualcomm claims a phone utilising the package may have four full stops of range — and works at 18 bits per channel to greatly improve dynamic range.
As for the video, qualcomm snapdragon Vision has a maximum resolution of 8k 30fps but now supports HDR10 and HDR+. Adding simultaneous hardware and software image stabilization will help keep your video shaky. That’s not all, however. Qualcomm now harnesses artificial intelligence through the ISP for better auto exposure and autofocus. A new addition is Advanced Face Tracking which can track 300 facial reference points (such as lips or eyebrows), twice what the previous generation ISP was able to do.
What phones come with Snapdragon Vision?
Snapdragon Vision was released with the qualcomm snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, therefore previous devices will not have it. Because this is a new ISP, the list of goods that use it isn’t particularly large as of this writing.
Throughout 2022 and beyond, we’ll undoubtedly see the qualcomm snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon Sight in more phones.
Is it really that important?
It takes more than a good ISP to get good photos from your phone. Since everything goes through a small lens without too much focal length, it takes a lot of technology to give us the photos we love. Qualcomm seems to have taken a big leap forward with Snapdragon Sight, and when paired with camera software that packs in good, simple features, we should be able to see a big difference.
