The next product from Google is the highly expected Pixel 8 series. The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are among the phones that the firm is releasing this autumn. The rumoured Pixel 8 has purportedly arrived at the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) as we wait for the launch (via 9to5Google).
A regulatory process to verify the device’s wireless charging capacity is the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). The Pixel 8 seems to have been registered with the GKWS6 model number. The indicated model number is verified to be correct by the 9to5 report.
The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro from last year arrived at WPC one week before they went on sale. But, the Google Pixel 8 has surfaced a bit early, providing us with a hint as to what to expect, even if it doesn’t seem too interesting.
According to the WPC listing, the Google Pixel 8 may not see any increases in wireless charging speeds. According to reports, it will be the same as the Pixel 7 from last year, with just 12W of power available. In contrast, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is still somewhat quicker and supports 15W wireless charging.
In addition, based on the version number, it seems that the Pixel 8 will not likely support the Qi2 wireless charging introduced earlier this year. For those who are not familiar, Qi2 is a new wireless charging standard that, according to WPC at the launch, promises to “unify the industry under one worldwide standard and deliver increased convenience and efficiency for mobile devices and wearables.”
The Qi2 wireless charging technology functions similarly to Apple’s MagSafe systems, which use magnets to align charging accessories with the wireless charging on Android devices.
Because only the Pixel 8 has been observed at the WPC so far, there is still hope for the speculated Pixel 8 Pro. The Pro may still support the Qi2 wireless standard for 15W charging. The inclusion is still hypothetical at this time. We will have a clearer idea of the new wireless charging usage in a few weeks or months.
The new temperature sensor on the back of the phone was demonstrated in a video that appeared to be a massive Pixel 8 Pro leak that we recently saw.
