Google has unveiled the Pixel 8a now, the A-series device in the Pixel 8 series, and the most pocket-friendly option among the Pixel 8 series.
The Pixel 8a smartphone is the new model that has a redesigned design which is slightly different from the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Seemingly straight-edged forms are now full of softened corners. The recycled plastic back and aluminum frame offer a smooth matte texture, and the front comes with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is rated IP67 dust and water-resistant and Google says it is the toughest A series phone built.
There are four phone colors: Bay, Aloe, Porcelain, and Obsidian.
Now, Pixel 8a arrives with a brand new 6.1-inch OLED display of 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate. While playing back HDR content in HDR mode, the display can be as high as 1400 nits and the peak brightness can go up to 2000 nits.
The Pixel 8a is equipped with a 64MP dual camera system on the back featuring a f1. 89 primary lens and a 13MP f2. 2 ultrawide. The front is a 13Mp f2. 2 shooter. All cameras can do 4K 30fps video but the rear cameras can do 4K 60fps.
Moreover, you also get astrophotography timelapse, 240fps slow motion, fused video stabilization, Cinematic Pan, 5x digital zoom, and optical image stabilization on the primary wide camera. In terms of software features, you will be getting Magic Editor, Best Take, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Face Unblur, Real Tone, Top Shot, Live HDR+, and Ultra HDR.
The Pixel 8a is backed by Google’s Tensor G3 chipset with a Titan M2 security coprocessor. There is 8GB LPDDR5x memory, and you will have an option for 128GB or 256GB UFS 3. 1 storage.
This phone has a 4492mAh battery, which Google says will last at least 24+ hours. There is 18W of wired power delivery and also supports Qi wireless charging.
Android 14 will be already installed on the Pixel 8a. The Pixel 8a will get seven years’ worth of operating system, security, and feature drop updates, just like other Pixel 8 devices. Other Google-only features for the phone include Circle to Search, Pixel Call Assist, Audio Emoji, and Gemini.
Other characteristics include stereo speakers, an under-display fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 6e, Bluetooth 5. 3, and USB 3. 2 NFC, connectivity, and dual SIM (nano + eSIM).
The Pixel 8a is priced at $499 / €549 / INR 52999 for the 128GB model and $559 / €609 / INR 59999 for the 256GB model. Today, pre-orders for the US are available and from May 14 it will be on the market. Pre-orders in India start on May 7 at 21:30:00 IST on Flipkart starting from May 14, 06:30 IST onwards.
