As you are surely aware, Qualcomm is the only chipset used in Samsung’s new Galaxy S23 series. Prospective consumers no longer have to worry about getting an Exynos-powered flagship phone in some areas because Snapdragon is now available everywhere. Everyone will be able to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and they will also receive an upgraded, overclocked version.
However, Samsung can still choose to develop its own Exynos SoCs for the market for high-end smartphones. The claimed CPU core configuration of the upcoming, as-yet-unannounced Samsung mobile chipset, likely known as the “Exynos 2400,” is also revealed by a fresh so-called “reliable leak.”
Exynos 2400 from Samsung is said to produce 10 CPU cores
According to this latest leak, the Exynos 2400 chipset will have a total of 10 CPU cores: one Cortex-X4 core, two Cortex A720 high-frequency cores, three Cortex A720 low-frequency cores, and four more Cortex-A520 cores. Ice Universe posted information about the unannounced Exynos 2400 SoC on the Chinese social media site Weibo, citing a “reliable leak.”
There’s no reason to think that Samsung will have to employ it for its upcoming Galaxy devices, even if the Exynos 2400 is under development. It’s possible that Samsung may continue working only with Qualcomm to create Galaxy flagship chipsets while also creating the Exynos 2400 SoC for other Chinese customers like Xiaomi, Vivo, Realme, and so forth.
Nobody knows for sure when the new Exynos 2400 chip will be available. If the chip proves successful, it might be available for purchase later this year or early next year. However, if Samsung omitted the Exynos 2300 moniker, as this leak implies, the company might have plans to release the Exynos 2400 in 2024.
Samsung increased its market share for smartphone chipset shipments to 7% in Q3 2022 from 5% in Q3 2021, according to Counterpoint Research. However, many of its competitors, like UNISOC, Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek, beat the Korean tech powerhouse.
