The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are Xiaomi’s newest flagship series, which was just launched. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, based on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process, powers both smartphones. More importantly, the two devices feature new looks and a noticeable camera improvement. Currently, they are exclusively offered in China, but we think that will change shortly.

Xiaomi 13 Pro

The display of the Xiaomi 13 Pro stays almost unaltered. We have the same device with nearly identical specifications as the Xiaomi 12 Pro, which features a 6.73-inch display. Given that it is an LTPO panel, these features include a 120Hz variable refresh rate, 1440 x 3200px resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, and 1920Hz DC dimming against harsh PWM. A colour temperature sensor for the surroundings is also included in the display, allowing for real-time colour modification.

The maximum and peak brightness is the only improvements here. While the peak brightness rise during HDR video playing, for instance, may reach 1,900 nits, the new 13 Pro’s display can illuminate the whole surface area at 1,200 nits.

Next-generation UFS 4.0 storage and the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are combined.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro’s triple 50MP camera arrangement on the back is there once more, but with some noteworthy improvements. The well-known 1-inch Sony IMX989, a 1.6-m sensor from the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, has been combined with a Leica-branded lens that boasts an f/1.9 aperture with Hyper OIS.

A significant enhancement is also made to the telephoto lens. Although it includes a 3x zoom and a Leica Floating Lens element with a slightly lower f/2.0 aperture, it has the same 50MP resolution. It is fascinating because of its 10 cm tight focusing distance.

The previous 50MP, f/2.2, 14mm device with macro capability and AF is still available; the ultrawide doesn’t gain any new fancy technology.

Xiaomi’s Surge G1 CPU and a little increase in battery size to 4,820 mAh make safe 120W cable charging and 50W wireless charging possible. There is also the normal 10W reverse wireless charging option. This is nothing new.

Along with IP68 dust and water resistance, which is a new addition to Xiaomi’s mainstream flagship line, other features include dual speakers calibrated for Dolby Atmos with Dolby’s new head tracking capability, an IR blaster, and, of course, Dolby Atmos.

The gadget is available with four different paint jobs over its ceramic back: white, black, green, and a type of light blue that is leather rather than ceramic. Now, the camera island resembles a square with oval corners.

Xiaomi 13

The display on the Xiaomi 13 is now slightly larger, measuring 6.36″ diagonally. It still has the same basic specifications as before, including 1080 x 2400px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate (no granular control is possible because it is not LTPO), support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG, as well as support for HDR10 and HDR10. The OLED display matches the 13 Pro’s peak and maximum brightness levels of 1,200 and 1,900 nits, respectively.

On all of its cameras, Leica additionally customises the camera arrangement on the rear. 50 MP, f/1.8, 23mm, 1/1.56″, 1.0 m, and Hyper OIS are the primary specifications. The Xiaomi 12’s biggest shortcoming was the lack of a good telephoto lens; more crucially, we now have one on board. A 10MP camera with OIS support, a Leica lens, an f/2.0 aperture, and a native 3x zoom is available. The ultrawide now has a 12MP resolution and an f/2.2 aperture, most likely without autofocus.

A 4,500 mAh cell with 67W rapid wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging capabilities makes up the battery system. Dolby Atmos dual speakers with Dolby Head Tracking, an IR blaster, and IP68 certification against water and dust are all included in the Xiaomi 13’s extra features.

The vanilla model, in contrast to the Pro, opts for regular glass on its back and is available in Black, Light Green, Light Blue, Gray, and White. Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, and other vibrant hues are also available, however, only the Light Blue variant is covered with leather, much like the Pre. And even if the camera island’s rear design is the same as that of the 13 Pro, the plain 13 stands apart thanks to a shiny, flat side.
