At the Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold6, a thinner, lighter phone with new screen aspect ratios. With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and One UI 6.1.1, the latest flagship foldable has the most recent Galaxy AI innovations out of the company’s labs.
The Galaxy Z Fold6’s cover screen’s new, marginally altered aspect ratio is undoubtedly the biggest update. The 22.1:9 ratio is noticeably better than the 23.1:9 of the departing model, though it’s still not what you would call typical.
Together with the new aspect, the cover display’s diagonal expanded slightly to 6.3″, which resulted in a respectable size increase at the expense of bezels.
When unfolded, the Galaxy Fold6 is 1.5 mm shorter and 2.9 mm wider than the Galaxy Fold5, while it is 1 mm shorter when folded. Its folded dimensions are 1.3 mm and its unfolded dimensions are 0.5 mm, respectively, but more significantly, it weighs 14g less than its predecessor. It is almost the lightest foldable available at 239g, and it weighs just 7g more than the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
To further enhance heat dissipation, Samsung even fitted a 1.6-times larger vapor chamber than the Fold5 and modified the hinge. The Fold6 is the first foldable with dust protection, and it is also IP48 certified. Even while it only promises to shield against solid particles larger than one millimeter, that’s still better than what we were using before.
Inside, there’s a 7.6-inch foldable screen with a 20.9:18 aspect ratio called Infinity Flex by Samsung. The primary and secondary displays are Dynamic AMOLED 2X models featuring an adjustable refresh rate of 120 Hz. Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protects the phone’s back when folded and the cover display.
The Galaxy Z Fold6’s five cameras don’t provide many hardware improvements. Along with a 10 MP f/2.4 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12 MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera with a 123-degree field of view, the rear of the camera still sports a 50 MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS.
A 4 MP video chat camera is concealed beneath the foldable display, while a 10 MP selfie camera is embedded inside a punch-hole on the cover display.
Unfortunately, the Samsung flagship foldable, which supports 25W cable, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging, has a 4,400 mAh battery for the third iteration in a row. Nonetheless, the manufacturer guarantees that the Galaxy Fold6’s increased efficiency will extend its battery life.
Samsung touted the Z Fold6’s huge screen productivity while going into great detail about the developments in Galaxy AI. The Note Assist and Circle to Search features remain unchanged, while the One UI 6.1.1, which is based on Android 14, makes use of the foldable form factor. While Sketch to Image enables AI to create intricate graphics from sketches generated in the Gallery or Note screen, Interpreter mode permits both parties to observe translations on the main and cover screens.
Regarding software, Samsung declared that the Galaxy Z Fold6 will receive upgrades for seven Android generations.
Three storage capacities are available for the Galaxy Z Fold6: 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Each capacity is matched with 12 GB of RAM. The primary color selections are Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy; Crafted Black and White are exclusively accessible on Samsung.com.
Pre-orders are currently being accepted, with public availability starting on July 24, and pricing starts at $1,899.99.
