Samsung introduced a unique Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition during its Unpacked event in France. Inside, the new foldable is the same as the standard model, but it has a bright yellow paint job, a few extra pre-loaded apps, and a flipsuit cover.              Â
As a symbol of Samsung’s three-decade collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the personalized phone will be given to every athlete competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.
Since Rio 2016, Samsung has given every participant a personalized smartphone; however, this time, athletes will receive the newest device from Samsung before it is formally released onto the market.
According to Samsung’s Stephanie Choi, EVP and Head of Marketing for Mobile eXperience Business, the phone would improve competitors’ experiences at the Games in Paris “from capturing lifelong memories to creating meaningful connections.”
Each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition comes with an eSIM with 100 GB of 5G data, provided by Orange, to make it easier for competitors to use their phones while in Paris. There are additional apps accessible as well: the Transport Accred app, the official Paris 2024 app, and the Athlete 365 platform, which functions as an athlete-only social media network.
Pre-loaded in-app pass for free drinks at Olympic and Paralympic Village vending machines is included with Samsung Wallet. A free public transportation access card is also provided; these items result from an alliance between the IOC, Coca-Cola, and IDFM, the public transportation provider in Paris.
Samsung will show out the Olympic Edition of the Galaxy Z Flip6 at exhibits all across Paris. Like the business did with the specially-made Galaxy Z Flip3 in China for Beijing 2022 and the specialized Galaxy S21 in Japan for Tokyo 2020, we might see it go on sale later without the athlete-only perks.
A week before to the Opening Ceremony along the Seine River on July 18, athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics will receive their phones. A dedicated 5G network will be used to broadcast the procession using Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones.
