Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, their newest processor. With a single prime Cortex-X4 core for the CPU and on-device AI capabilities shared with the flagship Snapdragon 8 series, the platform is a development of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. Comparing the new chip to its predecessor, performance gains of 15% and 45% are promised for the CPU and Adreno GPU, respectively, along with a 5% power consumption decrease.
This is the first Snapdragon 7-series processor with generative AI capabilities on-device. Numerous LVMs (large vision model) and LLMs (large language model) are supported, including Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM.
Better virtual assistants and incredibly efficient production of never-before-seen material are expected outcomes of the AI features. Everywhere should be able to access entertainment through multilingual transcription and translation.
Built on a 4nm fabrication technology, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 CPU has a primary Cortex-X4 core clocked at 2.8 GHz. Three efficiency units (Cortex-A520) at 1.9 GHz and four performance cores (presumably A720) at 2.6 GHz are also present.
The modem is a Snapdragon X63 5G that includes 3GPP Release 17 5G and the FastConnect 7800 mobile communication technology. Phones equipped with the chip will be able to function on all previous cellular standards, and downlink on NR can reach up to 4.2 Gbps.
Support for displays includes 4K at 60 Hz and QHD+120 Hz, with support for variable refresh rates ranging from 240 Hz to 1 Hz. Memory compatibility includes UFS 4.0 storage and up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
