• A patent application for a new Google foldable phone with a look that resembles the Samsung Galaxy Fold has surfaced.
• WIPO received the patent filing (World Intellectual Property Organisation). The document was first submitted in June 2021 and publicised earlier today.
• Later this year, Google is anticipated to release its foldable phone.
For some time now, it has been known that Google is developing the Pixel Notepad, a foldable phone. The firm hasn’t yet made any mention of it, so it doesn’t appear like it will launch before the end of this year as was first anticipated. There’s a chance we’ll catch a look at it during the launch announcement for the Pixel 7 series later this autumn. 91mobiles has unearthed a Google foldable phone patent exclusively while we wait for further information on the Pixel foldable.
At WIPO, the patent was submitted (World Intellectual Property Organisation). It was originally submitted in June 2021 and was only published this morning. The Pixel foldable will resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold in terms of appearance, according to the patent drawings.
Google patents a foldable phone
As it was previously said, the design is nearly identical to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and the patent was submitted to WIPO in June 2021. The bezels around the screen of the Google foldable appear to be very substantial, although it folds in half like a notebook. There will be a crease in the centre, as with other foldable with similar designs, which is difficult to eliminate.
In contrast to the recently released Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which has the selfie camera integrated into the screen, the Google foldable phone on the patent looks to have the selfie camera mounted in the top bezel. “A camera having an aperture situated in a bezel of the second assembly that surrounds the flexible continuous display,” states the patent description for the same. For typical smartphone functions, there should be a cover screen, but the patent doesn’t indicate how the phone is folded.
One possibility is that the Google foldable phone’s primary camera array will have a horizontal stripe like the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel foldable phone has been the subject of several renderings and patent design leaks before, so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about it.
Details on the foldable Google Pixel
According to rumours, the Google Pixel Notepad will have a 5.8-inch outside display, making it bigger and shorter than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Its aspect ratio will be larger than the Galaxy Z Fold. A Tensor chip, a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 primary camera, a 12MP IMX386 ultra-wide-angle lens, and two 8MP IMX355 selfie cameras are believed to be included. A Tensor chipset is anticipated to be included with the foldable. Soon, we should get more information regarding the foldable.
