Motorola has made its next line of foldable phones official in China after months of rumors and teasing. The top model is the Razr 40 Ultra, which has a 3.6-inch cover display and a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. Another entry that is more reasonably priced is the Razr 40, which has a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor with a smaller 1.5-inch cover screen.
Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
The 3.6-inch external display is the main selling point of the Moto Razr 40 Ultra. It has a 10-bit AMOLED display with 1066 x 1056 pixels of resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus for protection. This is the biggest cover screen on a clamshell foldable to date. It has a ton of customizable clock faces and dynamic backgrounds, but it’s not just for show.
Like previous Razr foldables, you are free to perform almost any action on the cover screen, including directions in Google Maps, and responding to emails without having to unfold the main screen.
The primary display on the Razr 40 Ultra is a 6.69-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED with a 165hz refresh rate, HDR10+ compatibility, and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. The teardrop hinge design of the Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) panel results in five layers of protection and no gap when closed. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 32MP front-facing camera placed at the top of the display.
The Razr 40 Ultra has a 7000-series aluminum frame, vegan leather in the Viva Magenta color, and Gorilla Glass Victus in the Infinite Black and Glacier Blue colors. The Razr 40 Ultra weighs 188 grams and measures only 6.99mm when unfolded and 15.1mm when folded. In addition, the phone has an IP52 water-repellent cover. Motorola decreased the hinge’s component count to 85, which should increase durability and lifetime. To capture material, the phone may be supported in a variety of positions on its back.
Moving on to the cameras, there is a 13MP ultrawide module (f/2.2, 1.12m pixels) that also functions as a macro camera, as well as a 12MP primary sensor with OIS (f/1.5, 1.4m native pixels).
Android 13 covers the software side, with the Ready For desktop experience when connected to an external display sitting on top of the Moto MyUX interface. Three OS upgrades are promised by Motorola. The 3,800 mAh battery on the Razr 40 Ultra supports up to 5W wireless charging and 30W cable charging. It is available in Viva Magenta, Ice Blue, and Infinity Black.
The 8/256GB variant is priced at CNY 5,699 ($801), while the 12/512GB model is priced at CNY 6,399 ($900). China’s public auctions begin on June 5. As the Razr 40 series becomes worldwide later today, further information regarding price and availability in more countries will be available.

The 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED screen on the Razr 40 has FHD+ resolution as well, although it has a somewhat slower refresh rate of 144Hz. The cover screen’s 1.5-inch (194 x 368 pixel) size allows it to serve as both a viewfinder for the cameras and a simple notification manager.
The Razr 40 is somewhat thicker than the Razr 40 Ultra but still has the same 7000-series aluminum frame and IP52 water-repellent certification (7.35mm unfolded and 15.8mm folded). Together with a 13MP ultrawide sensor (f/2.2, 1.12m pixels), there is a 64MP primary camera with OIS (f/1.7, 0.7m pixels). The front-facing sensor’s resolution is still limited to 32MP.
The Razr 40 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, which is assisted by 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The 4,200 mAh battery is bigger here, yet you still get the same 30W fast wired charging and up to 5W wireless charging.
The Moto Razr 40 is available in Summer Lilac, Vanilla Cream, and Sage Green. The standard 8/128GB model costs CNY 3,999 ($562), while the 12/256GB trim costs CNY 4,699 ($660). The Razr 40 will start selling publicly in China on June 25.
