Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 may be the new default flagship chipset in the Android market, but the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is a new midrange choice. Qualcomm’s dedicated AI Engine, up to 200MP picture capture, and Android Ready SE for e-money solutions are all firsts for the SD 7 series on the new 4nm technology.

The new SoC is powered by a Kryo CPU cluster with up to 2.4GHz clock speeds and an Adreno 662 GPU. According to Qualcomm, the new CPU handles graphics 20% quicker than the previous Snapdragon 778G, while AI operations are 30% faster on the new platform.

The Adreno Frame Motion Engine is said to double gaming framerates while using the same amount of power as the SD 778G. The new chip supports up to 16GB of LP-DDR5 memory.

The Snapdragon X62 5G modem, capable of 4.4 Gbps download rates and dual standby 5G connection in both (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes, is also included in the SD 7 Gen 1. WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound and aptX compatibility are also included.

The Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP supports picture capture up to 200MP and 4K HDR video recording. Also available are 10-bit HEIC picture capture and HEVC video recording. The Android SE and Trusted Management Engine, which guarantees superior security for digital keys and wallets, are another first.

The initial batch of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phones will be available in a few weeks from a variety of manufacturers. When the new chipset is introduced on May 23, Oppo’s Reno8 Pro is anticipated to be the first phone to use it.

The Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 System on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 enables wireless connection choices, including Wi-Fi 6E. (3.6 Gbps peak speed). Qualcomm aptX Voice, aptX Lossless, and aptX Adaptive are all supported, as well as Bluetooth 5.3. Most recent navigation technologies, including GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, NavIC, and Dual-Frequency GNSS (L1/L5), are also compatible with the SoC.
