The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus were both revealed at the same time as the flagship. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is not an exception to this pattern but rather serves to further establish it. Samsung’s previous Galaxy S Ultra phones were known for their great performance, camera capabilities, and cutting-edge phone technology.
What makes the Galaxy S23 Ultra such a promising flagship release? Let’s unravel the mystery!

Starting at $1,200 for the base 8GB RAM/256GB storage model, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will progressively cost more if you upgrade the RAM and storage options.

Design of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
With a few significant updates, the Galaxy S23 Ultra primarily maintains the design aesthetic of the Galaxy S22 Ultra from the previous year. It’s interesting to note that Samsung hasn’t fully redesigned its finest flagship phone for the first time in recent memory.

Recall that Samsung combined the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines in 2022, giving us the Galaxy S Ultra flagship with an incorporated S Pen stylus and enhancing the general design aesthetic of the business-oriented Note flagships.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra now has fewer curved sides and a wider flat area for the display, which improves the secure grip and makes it a little more comfortable to hold. The larger, more imposing, and more noticeable camera lenses perhaps hint at the phone’s photographic prowess.
Additionally, Corning’s new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is available for the first time on a phone with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is excellent news for the display’s longevity. A fingerprint scanner that uses ultrasound is hidden beneath all of this, and it should always be able to rapidly and accurately authenticate you. There is also face unlocking if you don’t want to rely on the biometric sensor, although it’s less secure.
The commonplace S Pen pen is also available, enabling you to swiftly take notes, create artistic snapshots, and engage with the interface in a variety of different ways. However, Samsung hasn’t made any big changes to the S Pen’s functionality this year, so the indispensable accessory remains as potent as ever.

Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender are the Galaxy S23’s available hues, and all four of them are really elegant-looking in person. All models include black S Pen styluses; the only part of the stylus that is coloured is the top clicking button. However, if you purchase the phone from a Samsung store, you can choose from a limited number of exclusive colour options. Lime, Graphite, Sky Blue, and Red are the exclusive hues, and for the time being, you can only get them from Samsung.com.
Galaxy S23 Ultra camera
The primary Galaxy S23 Ultra camera has been significantly upgraded, with a huge 1/1.3″ 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor, a quick f/1.7 aperture, and an 85-degree field of view. Yes, 200MP is as detailed as it gets, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra allows you to take images in the highest possible resolution as well as record breathtaking 8K videos with a faster framerate.
All 200 million pixels on the primary sensor are employed for focusing thanks to Super Quad Pixel technology, guaranteeing razor-sharp focus even in the worst ambient illumination situations. Additionally, the camera employs a brand-new pixel-binning technology that merges 16 pixels into one to take additional 12MP photos in extremely low light conditions, or four pixels into one to create 50MP images.

The well-known 12MP ultra wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a broad, 120-degree field of view makes up the remainder of the camera loadout. Regarding the telephoto lenses, we have a 10MP 3X telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture as well as a 10MP periscope lens with an ultra-long 10X optical zoom that can push the zoom slider to Samsung’s 100X Space Zoom.
Samsung has added a new 12MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture and dual phase-detection autofocus to the front of the device. This camera should enable rapid and precise zooming in on your face even in dim lighting. The front camera now supports Super HDR video recording for a wider spectrum of colours and Selfie Night pictures.
Samsung takes pride in the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s enhanced “lithography,” which is far better than what we received on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. When snapping photos after the lights go out, bright and detailed images are guaranteed. The

The new 300X Hyperlapse feature in the camera app even lets you capture star trails.
Speaking of video, the Galaxy S23 Ultra can now record 8K videos at up to 30 frames per second, which is an upgrade from the 24 frames per second that the Galaxy S22 Ultra was able to achieve in 2017. You have greater creative control over your cinematic masterpieces because to the broader field of view while recording 8K footage than previously.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Hardware and Specs
In comparison to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 Ultra doesn’t provide any modifications upfront. The new phone has the same large, vivid Dynamic AMOLED QHD+ display with a punch-hole, an adaptive refresh rate that ranges from 1 to 120Hz, and a screen touch sampling rate of 240Hz in gaming mode. Similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the flagship’s peak brightness can reach up to 1,750 nits in optimal lighting, and its display is razor crisp at exactly 500 pixels per inch, which is higher than typical.
The hardware within the new Galaxy, though, is what sets it apart. For the first time in recent memory, Samsung has chosen not to provide the Galaxy S23 Ultra with regionally specific chips. We no longer have a phone with an Exynos and a Snapdragon variation; instead, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra only relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, with (hopefully) no Exynos variant in the works.
Mind you, it’s not your typical Snapdragon chipset; rather, it’s a modified version of Qualcomm’s newest crowning achievement, the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy.” It is slightly faster than the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which might be enough to give it an advantage over rivals.
Because of this, Samsung has been able to fully utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s graphical capabilities, making it an apparent gaming powerhouse. We can only hope that the temperature control will be effective and help sustain performance during gaming. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has storage capacities ranging from 256GB to 1TB and comes with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Choose carefully because there is no way to increase the amount of storage using a microSD card slot.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s battery and charging capacity is 5,000mAh, which would likely last up to a day of intense usage. The phone can charge at a maximum rate of 45W, which translates to a top-up time of 30 minutes for around 65% of the battery. Additionally planned are faster wireless charging and reverse power sharing.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is shaping up to be a standout flagship device, and we can’t wait to share our first thoughts with you! Be sure to visit our Galaxy S23 Ultra preview to see those.
Software and capabilities of the Galaxy S23 Ultra
Four years of software upgrades are guaranteed with the purchase of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is fantastic since it will allow you to take use of the new software capabilities that all Android and One UI updates up to Android 17 will offer. Additionally, you will continue to receive the necessary security patches for an additional year.
The software of choice for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, One UI 5.1, is based on Android 13 and offers some upgrades over One UI 5, which is already present on all of Samsung’s flagship devices. One UI 5.1 has capabilities including picture cloning and isolation similar to iOS 16, as well as enhancements to Bixby, DeX, Gallery, and a few new widgets.
No, One UI 5.1 will not be limited to the Galaxy S23 Ultra; rather, Samsung will soon release the newest software upgrade to the rest of the flagship series, allowing you to experience it on your Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and other devices.
