At Google I/O the following month, the Google Pixel 8a is expected to be unveiled. But we already know almost all there is to know about the Pixel 8a before that appearance.
Additional mockups of the four Pixel 8a colors—Obsidian, Porcelain, Mint, and Bay—as well as cases and advertising photos that list nearly every feature that will be included in the device this year are being shared today.
Google is promoting the “AI-mazing” camera on the Pixel 8a and adding functions such as Night Sight, Audio Magic Eraser, and Best Take. Night Sight and Best Take have been available for the Pixel 8a for quite some time, so none of these are truly new. But Audio Magic Eraser was included in the Pixel 8 series last autumn. In our testing with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, it has performed flawlessly, and we anticipate the Pixel 8a to be the same.
Google also has an endless number of functions that are useful for you all day long. In addition to using Circle to search on the Pixel 8a, you can instantly obtain an email summary and filter calls with Call Assist.
Here are a few specifications. The Pixel 8a is powered by the Google Tensor G3 processor, as predicted. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which were released last autumn, are powered by the same chipset. Fast charging is also mentioned by Google, although we wouldn’t anticipate anything more rapid than 30W in this case.
In June, Google announced the end of a feature that they had been actively promoting. The Google One VPN is that. The Pixel 8a also comes with seven years of security updates and is IP67-rated for resistance to dust and water. As it did with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, Google is now defining security updates rather than merely updates in this instance. Therefore, the update policy may differ slightly from those of the flagship Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
On May 16, the Google Pixel 8a will go on sale
It is expected that the Google Pixel 8a will launch on sale on May 16, a few days after the Google I/O presentation. Additionally, the home screen in these renderings reflects that. That date usually refers to the announcement date or the date the phone will be available for purchase. We anticipate that the sale will take place on May 14 and 15, which is Google I/O.
All four of the Pixel 8a variants have identical silicon casings, as the gallery below illustrates. This encompasses the hues Mint, Bay, Porcelain, and Obsidian. The features of these covers, which include a somewhat sticky feel that easily adheres to dust and grime, are the same as those seen on previous Pixel phones.
The Pixel 8a is anticipated to stay priced at $500 this year. A Canadian store recently leaked pricing information, indicating that the converted price would be around USD 510, not much more than the Pixel 7a.
Although it’s currently anticipated that the Pixel 8a will be the lone hardware announcement at Google I/O, things might change. There haven’t been many leaks concerning the Pixel Tablet 2 or the Pixel Fold 2 (or Pixel 9 Pro Fold, as was previously speculated). Both of its forerunners made their I/O debuts. But it looks like those will debut in the autumn instead.
Looking good, Google’s Pixel 8a is going to be a great mid-range phone. Additionally, it surpasses all other phones in its price category by receiving security upgrades for seven years.
