New Android APIs and utilities for huge displays, as well as 12L.

Android is used on more than a half billion large-screen devices, including tablets, foldables, and ChromeOS devices. We’ve seen approximately 100 million additional Android tablet activations in the last year–a 20 percent year-over-year increase, while ChromeOS, the fastest-growing desktop platform, has grown by 92 percent. Foldable devices are also on the rise, with a year-on-year increase of almost 265 percent! In all, there are about 250 million Android-powered large-screen devices in use. With all of this momentum, we’re still investing in making Android an even better OS for users and developers on these devices.

But, at Android Dev Summit today, we unveiled a feature release for Android 12 that is purpose-built for big displays, dubbed 12L, as well as new APIs, tools, and advice to make it easier to design for big displays.

12L is a feature drop for big displays that is currently being tested.

Now, we’re releasing a developer preview of 12L, a planned innovation that will improve Android 12 on big displays. You may use the preview to check out the new large-screen features, optimise your apps, or provide feedback.

Two-column layouts display more information and are simpler to use.

On large displays, we’ve improved the UI in 12L, including notifications, fast settings, lockscreen, overview, home screen, and more. The notification shade, lockscreen, and other system surfaces, for example, employ a new two-column style to take advantage of the screen space on displays over 600dp. Apps that run on the system have also been optimised.

Toggle between split-screen and full-screen modes by dragging and dropping programmes.

We’ve further improved multitasking by including a new taskbar on wide displays that allows users to quickly move between their favourite programmes. The desktop also makes split-screen mode more accessible than ever before: simply drag and drop an app into split-screen mode from the taskbar. To make split-screen mode more usable in Android 12 and later, we’re assisting users by automatically enabling split-screen mode for all applications, regardless of whether they’re adjustable.

Finally but not least, we’ve improved compatibility mode with visual and stability enhancements to provide users with a better letterboxing experience and make applications appear better by design. Device manufacturers may now select unique letterbox colours or textures, modify the position of the inset window, apply unique rounded corners, and more since we’ve made letterboxing easy to customise.

The 12L feature drop will be available early next year, just in time for the next generation of Android 12 tablets and foldables. We’re already working with our OEM partners to add these capabilities to their large-screen devices, so stay tuned for the Lenovo P12 Pro’s developer preview of 12L.

Making it easier to create large-screen content

That’s time to start creating completely customizable apps that work on every device, and we’ve made it even faster. Along with the developer preview, we’re delivering improvements to our APIs, tools, and advice to help you prepare for these changes in the OS and Play.

Patterns for large screens should be considered when designing.

The very first step in implementing flexible UI is to create an app that works well on both tiny and large screens. Samsung has released a One UI 4 promotional videos.

Two official advertising movies for Samsung’s next Android skin, One UI 4, were revealed today. For a time now, public beta versions of this have been available in a few countries, and we’re now on beta 3. Its final build is scheduled to be released in the next weeks, so it’s not surprising that Samsung will create such films to promote its skin.

AVvXsEiSn a EdVLjHWejxvf6TptRQJcabsYfDkzMQ2N1jM2e90gEKt7ZhIAE8sZtbJqzYWC3 F9DxU6vdOZmQ4Hh 5 XsqgpuyeJZG9ZACbrEGELLhSr90bkdL8k6FLBMBPFDY6AQEsopqMSZLmzKtkebqsrpMQKtJtUyyWDTVvvYz0sJkB2SlwQIewhL QEg=w640 h276

The very first video focuses on the evolution of the skin since One UI 2, as well as some user comments, which leads to the major statement that One UI 4 was created in response to user requests. Customizability, as well as widgets (already with curved edges) or dark mode for app icons, all play a significant role.

There is also a lot of other topics discussed as well, but the most surprise development comes at the end of the movie, when Samsung proudly announces that One UI Book 4 will bring some of the action to laptops. That’s basically a laptop-specific version of One UI, as the names suggest.

We didn’t see it coming, but the major question is whether this would genuinely improve the user experience for Samsung laptop customers. Is it merely a desperate effort to duplicate Apple’s ecosystem strategic plan? It might be either, none, or both; we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

The firm goes into better detail in the second video on the customizations built into One UI 4, as well as different photo-related capabilities and easily transferring things to your Samsung laptop. Oh, and don’t say we didn’t warn you about the word “ecosystem” coming.

To pack things off, we get a look at the Galaxy Watch 4 – which defies the logic of this being a One UI 4 advertising film. And besides, the watch is a part of that powerful ecosystem, so that’s most likely why it was included.

Snapdragon 7, 6, and 4 Series SoCs are now available from Qualcomm.

Qualcomm revealed  the Snapdragon 778G processor from earlier this year has been updated. The Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G is a new mid-range processor that is largely the same as its previous but with improved CPU and GPU performance. Qualcomm has also introduced three new CPUs, the Snapdragon 695 5G, Snapdragon 680 4G, and Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G, in addition to the Snapdragon 778G Plus.

The Snapdragon 778G Plus, like the Snapdragon 778G, uses Qualcomm’s Kryo 670 CPU cores. But, after 2.4GHz, the new SoC can boost to 2.5GHz. The Adreno 642L GPU is also included in the SoC, but Qualcomm says that it performs 20% better than previously. Additional features, such as Ai technologies, a 5G modem, other wireless connectivity possibilities, an ISP, and so on, remain functional.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G

Its Snapdragon 695 5G is a definite upgrade from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690, which was launched in June of last year. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 695 5G supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G, and also up to 30% better graphics rendering and 15% better CPU performance than its previous model. The Snapdragon 660 SoC has Qualcomm’s Kryo 660 CPU cores (up to 2.2GHz) and also the Adreno 619 GPU. Samsung Unpacked: High Resolution Renders of the Galaxy S22Ultra.

published in recent weeks about the new S-series devices that will be unveiled in early 2022 at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event. LetsGoDigital disclosed the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s camera design a week ago. Based on unique information collected from South Korean former Samsung employee Super Roader, LetsGoDigital commissioned high-quality product renderings. According to this report, Samsung will include a water drop camera technology in the new top model of the Galaxy S series.

Similarly, in-house graphic designer Giuseppe Spinelli, nicknamed Snoreyn, has been hard at work on Technizo Concept’s Galaxy S22 Ultra model, this time setting the smartphone in a photo-realistic environment – like the smartphones were on show at Samsung Unpacked. This is the first moment designers have collaborated to create a more reasonable outcome. As a result, the updated 4K and 8K models provide a more true picture of how this phone model will appear in real life.

Waterdrop camera technology on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Many people now are confused about what to trust. After all, this isn’t the first time the S22 Ultra’s camera system has been displayed. It was previously stated by the French leaker OnLeaks that it will be a P-shaped camera island. Ice Universe expected an 11-shaped camera island on the S22 Ultra, understanding it wouldn’t be a P-shape. As a result, there were a number of various versions floating about.

A waterdrop-style design that LetsGoDigital revealed weeks ago has now been confirmed, thanks to a picture of a rear panel with five-camera holes floating on the Chinese social media site Weibo. According to the leaked image, Samsung plans to keep the camera island as simple as possible this time. The design is identical to the Galaxy A32, which is a budget phone. Samsung has taken this design approach from LG Electronics, which included a water drop camera on the LG Velvet.

We’re very convinced we’re not likely to see a new iPad Pro any time soon. A notch will be present on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. The notch is there to make place for the front camera, not for any Face ID-like technology. Because the bezels around the display are so thin, the selfie camera has to be placed in a notch.
